A discussion was organized by the Karnaphuli Foundation paying tribute to all the martyrs of the international mother tongue and language movement of 1952.
February 11 is an unforgettable and inspiring day for the Bengali nation. It is not only Bangladesh but now it is being celebrated as International Mother Language Day all over the world.
This day is marked as a day full of sad and glorious memories of Bengali people’s language movement. On this day (8 Falgun, 1358, Thursday) in 1952, many young students were martyred by police firing on students protesting in Dhaka to demand Bengali as the state language of the then East Pakistan.
Ekushey February is celebrated all over the world as Ekushey is the beacon of our thoughts. Twenty-one is now a symbol of language and rights struggles and dignity around the world. Our pride ‘Shaheed Minar’ is standing tall in different countries of the world.
Some events spread the light of consciousness all over the world. Our brothers, martyrs of our language are covered by the strong oath of that spirit. With that Dhaka Medical premises, that blood history.
Without the protection, development and practice of the mother tongue, no nation can progress, not least the Bengali nation. And thus Bengali language is becoming one of the means of globalization day by day.
